- Worldwide cross-cultural interaction easily takes place today with modern global telecommunications and transportation. Members of various racial, ethnic and national groups are mixed together in schools and workplaces in even the most remote areas. As people from different backgrounds come together in an increasingly interdependent world, cultural difference become more important than ever before. An understanding of intercultural relations is essential in all areas of study and for every occupation, and at all levels of human interaction – from the interpersonal to the international. This body of knowledge helps to explain the difficulties and conflicts created by cultural differences, and leads to ways of overcoming these barriers.
